· They can be built so the fence sits on top of a wall

· The height can vary from anything up to 1.8 meter high

There are various styles of custom built fences.  There are paled fences (as in picture above), normal, round or pointed top.  From using the same pales hit and miss style can be built.

There are also feather edge boarded fencing.

 

All of the styles has the option of a capping rail which finishes the top of the fence of, if you do not have round/pointed pales.
